Lives of the Saints: From Mary and St. Francis of Assisi to John XXIII and Mother Teresa
      Author: Richard P. Mcbrien
      Rating: 4
Review: While he had too many "political" comments in his writing, over all this book did it's job, which was to introduce us to many of the roughly three thousand Saints on the books of the Catholic Church. He also lays out, roughly, how one becomes a Saint in the Catholic Church. I like how at the end, he goes through a "chronological" review of the Saints as they lived, which tied them more closely to history, which was nice. Worth reading if you don't know much about the Saints of the Catholic Faith. Received a 4 out of 5 due to the politics...

    • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
      Author: J. K. Rowling
      Rating: 4
Review: Over all the book was pretty good as usual. Harry continued to have his "issues" and there for a short bit, I thought he had lost Ron as a friend, but that worked it out as I should have probably figured. The real kicker was that Dudley and Draco both became "friends" (of sorts) with Harry. Interesting twist. The last chapter was written as if it was from someone other than J.K. Rowling though. It was of a totally different style, badly written and it didn't feel like it belong in the book. (Hence the 4 of 5 rating.)

    • Availability...the Problem and the Gift
      Availability...the Problem and the Gift
      Author: Robert J. Wicks
      Rating: 4
Review: The last chapter, and a few tidbits throughout made this book worth reading. The rest of the book was hard to get through, and wasn't something I always agreed with. I think a Priest should read it, but there are probably better books out there to read first.

New Renter! May 25th, 2006

Well, I almost let it slip by! And in the process, I acquired 14 renter applications, and was only shown 6 of them for some reason. Until I clicked on the one of those six I was able to see, I wasn’t told of the 14 that were there, so 8 people got short changed in their app review. I selected another tech head, who writes about various technical related news as to what’s happening in tech. Hope you check him out! (Just click on the link to the left there on the sidebar!)

Reading. May 25th, 2006

Well, I’m doing something I tend not to do historically.

I’m reading three books at one time:

The Call of the Wild (Unabridged Classics) (Actually using the AV Books version, but that’s not for sale from Amazon…)

The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors And Closing Deals Online (Re-Reading this one…)

Complete Idiot\'s Guide to Learning Spanish (The Complete Idiot\'s Guide)

Spanish I do at night before I go to bed, the other two, as I can… :)

Now to get back to the school books and disseration too…

SAR Training May 23rd, 2006

Last night I received a call from a lady I had talked to about 4 months ago about Kodi and SAR (Search and Rescue) training. She was calling to tell me that one of the local teams she was on had access to a building that was being torn down and would Kodi and I like to “come out and play”. I would need to be a victim for a couple of searches, but Kodi would be able to do a search or two as well.

I of course accepted! She even offered to come get Kodi and I and take us to the event. The building was a fairly large building that had already been knocked mostly down, and the fire department had already done their drills there (in breaking into areas to get to people, fire management training, etc.), so we had the building for several hours of hiding people and finding people. When we got there others were just starting to show up as well. There were already two people (and about four spotters ranging about) “buried” in the building as well.

After introductions and a briefing a dog went on the pile to do a search. They spent about 30 minutes on the pile covering about half of the building, but came off the pile without any find. As visitors, Kodi and I were on the pile next with a local observer. After about ten minutes (in the same area the other dog had just gone over) Kodi alerted on her first find for the night. I tagged the location, called down that help was on the way, and Kodi and I left the pile. The “Rescue Team” went in and helped the person out of the hole for a breather. The observer liked how I handled Kodi, which is basically letting Kodi do her thing, and how I read her signs.

Over the next few hours I was buried a couple of times, and Kodi got to search the pile two more times, both times making a “live” find. In fact, of the whole night, Kodi was the only puppy to actually make finds, which made me happy, but not the rest of the team there.

Over all good training day for Kodi and I, and I enjoyed getting back into it!

Wieght Status!! May 22nd, 2006

Well folks, yesterday I went by the scales again. I have some good news! I’m down to 250 from my last check a couple weeks ago of 258! My belt is WAY too big now, and I need to get off my behind and go get a new one, but I’m going to wait until I hit 210, or until I REALLY have to get a new one before I go buy a new belt.

Walked into work this AM, and I must have lost another pound in sweet! It’s pouring off of me! Good thing I brought in a second shirt, just in case, as I’m going to need to wear it instead of the sweet logged shirt I wore in.

Goes to show you what eating better (still not right, but better), walking and ab rolls will do for you! Just think if I eat RIGHT, went to the gym and walked would do!

What is the issue? May 17th, 2006

I am very confused as to what all the hoopla is about in reference to the movie coming out based on the book “The Da Vinci Code”.

I read the NOVEL, yes, novel, not nonfiction, NOVEL! Yes, it is based on some facts, but it is a novel all the same.

Now, all the mess the Catholic church is putting up over this book and movie has me wondering how much IS factual…

Come on folks, just enjoy (or not) the movie, and quite putting so much emphasis on whether or not it is based solidly on truth, partially on truth or not at all based on truth. Watch the movie for what it was intended for, to enjoy and have fun with.

Not everything has to be about religion, or against it.

A question for you… May 16th, 2006

I am a member of LinkReferral.com and someone there reviewed my business web site harshly because I had a Google search bar at the bottom of each page.

Now, my thoughts when I put it there, were I wanted someone to be able to search my website (or the web) for content related to my web site. Still like that thought. He’s comments were it trashed my web site, made it look cheap, and would chase people off.

Your thoughts?

Oooops… May 16th, 2006

I see my “Bot Check” plugin was broken. Hence the no comments probably. I’ve deactivated it, and sometime between now and Sunday I will look into it and get it fixed! Hope I didn’t chase any of you off because of it! ;)

A new thing for me… May 16th, 2006

With this loss of 40ish pounds I’m finding that I get “cold” now. That has not happened to me in years! I actually had to turn off the AC at home yesterday evening. While I like the less weight, and plan on loosing about forty more pounds, I’m not sure I like this side effect. (And I’m sure it is from the weight loss!)

I hope the summers aren’t as hot as a side effect too. ;)
