I just don’t get it…

Tattoos… Why would anyone want to permanently mark and mar their body and cause it harm? I know it supposedly doesn’t hurt “too much”, but you are harming the body. Yes, some of the “Art”, and it is art in many cases, is nice looking. But mark, permanently, your body up?

Now, I understand those tribes/cultures that mark their bodys to identify back in the “old days” (and that still do it today, but they are still tribal and that has been their ways for centuries). These tribe’s marks show rank, position, abilities, etc.

Today’s tattoos, non-tribal, don’t show that in most cases. They show your spouse, loved one, animals, Mom, bizarre scenes, not so bizarre scenes, etc.

I know several people that had tats of their wife’s name, then they got divoriced and hated the lady. They went to get it removed, but you still see it, it just doesn’t have color. And the removal was more painful than having it put on.

Putting them in places people don’t see doesn’t make sense either. Now if you are going to do it to begin with, show the world that you have it, don’t hide it so only you, and potentially your loved one, see it.

I just don’t get it….

Reading Time!

Posted: May 15th, 2006 | Author: | Filed under: School | No Comments »

I’ve been working on my body (and will continue to do so), and now I’m also back to working on my brain. :) I’m still working on my Dissertation, but have decided to NOT let the Spanish Language beat me. Over the years I have been able to learn Korean (helped that I lived there for a year) and German, but for the life of me I have put a block up it seems about learning Spanish. (I think it came from living good parts of my formative years, in small parts of time, in El Paso Texas, which is mainly Spanish speaking people, and my anger for them not speaking English, our Native (now…) tongue.)

To that end, I am now reading and studying Complete Idiot’s Guide to Learning Spanish, 4th Edition (The Complete Idiot’s Guide). Yes, Fourth Edition, which isn’t yet out. I have it already as we are also making it into a AV Books book, at the request of Alpha Books!

Maybe this time I will learn Spanish!

After I finish that book, I will be reading Complete Idiot’s Guide to Learning French, 3E (The Complete Idiot’s Guide). Again, because AV Books is creating it in our format as well for Alpha Books!

Fires In Florida

Posted: May 10th, 2006 | Author: | Filed under: Misc | No Comments »

Well, they are 99% sure that the fires running up and down Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike were caused by idiot smokers that threw their still burning cigarette butts out the window as they speed down the road. Fools! First for smoking in general, and second for being so stupid to through fire onto grass in a windy area!

This stupidity has caused millions of dollars in damage and associated expenses. And they are expenses I’d rather not be paying towards! I say we raise the cost of cigarettes even more than they currently are and see how many people continue to smoke (killing themselves and others, as well as raising cost on non smokers to cover damage to areas due to stupidity) at the higher cost!

Add to that, here in Pompano Beach, we have a hazy day because of it, and I have a allergy headache and sore throat that I can probably attribute to the smoke rolling through here from the fires west and north of here. (We have a West wind bringing it all here. :( )

An Interesting Day.

Our clients on the sail boat today did not call or show up, so we decided to go out by ourselves and tie up at sea and dive over and clean the boat bottom. Add to that, the Air/Sea show is going on today (and yesterday) so we watched military helicopters refueling in air, and many other aircraft flying about. Was fun to watch.

There was a bit of wind, which is good for sailing, but not so good when you are diving the boat. I ended up staying on board as “Safety” while Tony and Maverick dove the boat to clean it. They both got bounced around pretty good, and hit hard by the boat a few times as it bounced the waves coming at it.

After cleaning the boat, we did some “Man Over Board” drills and started back by sail. When Maverick went down to shut off the motor he noticed that the bilge was flooded and about to “capture” the motor, which is bad. We went into emergency mode, and I started hand pumping out the bilge as we raced back to the dock. We even called for “SeaTow” to come help us, but my job at pumping it out enabled us to call them off.

It was a good day over all though. :)

Writing a book…

Posted: May 7th, 2006 | Author: | Filed under: Misc, Work | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Well, actually two books. I am currently, and have been for a few years now, trying to write a couple of books. One is based on a characters life in the military, and the other is a business book on how to write business plans (as I recommend here).

As I read what I write, I stop, erase everything and start over. I should probably stop erasing everything and just keep writing until I’m done, then let someone else read it over and erase it. :)

Are there any writers out there reading this? If so, how do you do it? It seems difficult to not be so critical of your own work! I know I have these two books (and a few more) in me, it’s just getting them on paper in a way I like!

Business BLog Coming Back

Posted: May 2nd, 2006 | Author: | Filed under: Work | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

As I bring this blog back up I am also slowly bringing back my TDBell Enterprises, Inc., Business BLog back as well. That blog talks about business topics, to include the Watkins business, but mainly how to set up and structure your company for success. I talk about how to get funding, and what to do/not do in that area.

I hope you enjoy it for those of you that are in business. :)

A Friend in CA.

I have a friend in Central California that is a bit over weight. She has looked into going through surgery to get a tuck and or a band, at her husband’s request, but is not happy with what she has seen and heard. Her husband a many years is demanding that she go do it, even though it will put them in financial straights for a while. He isn’t listening to her concerns and her desire to not go through with it.

Do you think a spouse should be demanding something like this? Do you feel either procedure does any good?

My thoughts are if my friend wants to do this, she should go for it, ONLY after looking it over in very detail she can. Personally I’d not do it, and I probably could now. I’ll walk more, I’ll eat better, etc. (And I already am.) Now in her case, there may be some medical issues in play keeping her from more exercise, etc. But still, I think *she* should control what happens to her body. Now, a spouse can give their feedback and thoughts, but should not demand something like this.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this….
