My ramblings as I move forward in my life Journey.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide books.

I’m finding that I like the “Complete Idiot’s Guide to” books. At AV Books, we are aggressively working on our Marketing Plan. At the same time we are producing Complete Idiot’s Guide to Learning French, 3E (The Complete Idiot’s Guide) (fourth edition though!) and Complete Idiot\’s Guide to Learning Spanish, 4th Edition (Complete Idiot\’s Guide to) as Multimedia AV Books. This has given me time to get very intimate with the series, and I’m liking it. I liked it so much I’ve picked up Complete Idiot’s Guide to Marketing, 2E (Complete Idiot’s Guide to) to work on my marketing skills.

I may have to find some time to look at the complete series and see what else is there to read. :)

Getting Old?

Posted: June 12th, 2006 | Author: | Filed under: Misc | Tags: , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Took a couple hours off from work yesterday (yes, worked all weekend) to go get an eye exam. For the past few months it’s been hard to read, with the text being blurred, which is new for me, as I’ve never had that problem before.

Seems my left eye has gotten a LOT worse than it was a couple of years ago when I last had my eyes checked, and my right eye has gotten just a little bit worse. Some time today I hope to go to a friends “office” and get my new glasses ordered.

On the up side, I’m moving to bifocals (yep, have to get bifocals now) a couple of years later than my parents or older brother had to in their time. That’s good for me… ;)

Vixen was the only Renter this week, but that’s OK. This BLog is her journal of life. A bit dark (both in color and content), but not bad at all. Interesting times she has some times. :) Please do click on her link there to the left and check her blog out!

Fell off the band wagon…

This past week I feel off the band wagon. Not hard, and not far, but hard enough and far enough. I didn’t eat as well, having bought candies which I haven’t done in over six months, and other sweets I shouldn’t have. I’ve also not used my AB Lounge or done my push ups.. I’m still walking every day, but that’s not going to cut it! When I got up this morning, I THOUGHT about doing my AB Lounge, push ups, and such, but what did I do? I picked up two (which is actually four) cookies and icing snacks from Little Debbie.

I did walk into work today (Yep, working ALL weekend this weekend as we get Complete Idiot\’s Guide to Learning French, 3E (The Complete Idiot\’s Guide) (Actually 4th Edition, but it’s not out yet, and when it is, it will have the AV Books CD in it so you can REALLY have a GREAT learning experience!)), but that isn’t all I should be doing.

I’ll be weighing myself tomorrow (should I get with this book in time to go to the scales), and I better not have back slide at all!

Not happy with myself.

Work Habits/Ethics.

Something that has amazed me for years is the way many people work, especially at “crunch time”. You know that time where it is do or die at work. When that project MUST be done by X time or there is no more project/company/whatever.

Why don’t people put in that extra effort (or ANY effort) anymore and get the job done, regardless (but within the law of course) of time needed, etc? Why must people be ‘naysayer’s’ and say it can’t be done, when, if they would put in a few extra hours more, stop saying it can’t be done, and go do it, it would be done on time?

Now, if, after putting in the time and effort and it isn’t done, that is a different thing, as the project was attempted, and done to the fullest. At this point, there was no fault (other than maybe someone taking on a project they shouldn’t have created.).

It just amazes me that people don’t do their utmost while at work or play or in any thing they do.

(Yes, I know I don’t 100% of the time either, but I try…)

Having Fun.

While I’m not a programmer, I know how to program. In many cases I can do well, but I’m mainly a Hacker. Not in the sense of hacking into computers to break in, etc, but in the sense of hacking at code to make the code work. My best work is taking someone elses code and improving (in my eyes anyway) on it, often making it more compact and getting rid of un-needed code, while adding “features”, etc.

For the past few weeks I’ve been able to do just that, both at work, and at home. And I’m LOVING it! Add to that, I’m learning new things every day while doing this! I am renewing my skills in Visual Basic (Yes, I know, a dead, soon to be non-supported language by Microsoft), and I have been coding a LOT in GCC on a linux box.

The fun stuff is the C++ stuff. I’m working on a “visual” world application using VRML and C++ code. It will probably be ported to Java or some such, but for now, I’m working on it in C++, server side. It’s been fun and it’s coming together nicely!

New Renter!

Well, it’s that time again. I received four bids this time, and this time I was able to look at all four. All were good, so it was a hard decision, but I decided to go with Jinxy’s web site. She talks about things that come up, pretty much like I do! Do me, her and yourself a favor and click on the link to the left there right below my “About” section.

Enjoy!
