The New American Bible for Catholics: With Revised New Testament and Revised Book of Psalms by Confraternity of Christian Doctrine
Book Reviews
Touching the Holy: Ordinariness, Self-Esteem, and Friendship
Author: Robert J. Wicks
Rating: 5
Review: Mr. Wicks takes you deep within yourself and helps you find your place with God by having you look at yourself in detail. He then helps you by showing you who to have in your life as "mentors" and advisers. I highly recommend this book to anyone in Religious life, or who has a strong Religious Life.
Go in Peace: A Gift of Enduring Love
Author: John Paul II
Rating: 5
Review: This book is a must read for any "born again" Catholic/Christian, and for ANY Christian! Pope John Paul II's words are very awe inspiring and take you to the quick. He's review of Christianity is refreshing and open. The book is well written, easy to read, and very enlightning.
St Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica (translated by Fathers of the English Dominican Province) (5 Volume Set)
Author: Thomas Aquinas
Rating: 4
Review: WOW! Be serious about the desire to read this book. It was hard to read at times, and required a lot of time and concentration to "get it". That said, it is used by the Catholic Church as the foundation for the current teachings of the Church, so it is an important read. Gets a 4 of 5 because of the way it is set up, which makes it hard to read.
Well, I’ve been wondering why there were few comments here, and it seems I required that all people create an account to comment, which was not my intent!! Thanks to a GOOD friend Jamie bringing it to my attention, I have fixed the issues, and have opened up comments. Enjoy!
Well, in putzing about cleaning up things, I found a download I had brought down a while back called the “Travelog” Wordpress plug-in. I installed it today, and will, over time, add places I’ve been to, talking about them some, etc.
Just to show it off, I’ve included a pointer to South Korea, the US Armies best kept secret (although that is probably changing with the tenseness going on over there right now). I spent a full year living there as an adult, another year over a few years working there, and two years as a child.
I enjoyed Korea lot!
(Also, check out some of the old post soon, they may get updated with links to where I’m talking about in them as well! )
Jay posted a comment on his blog today that made me nod my head in agreement about time management and taking the time out to do what needs to be done.
I keep saying I don’t have the time to do many things I should be doing each and every day. Exercise, homework, selling Watkins (both the products and the opportunity), spending quality time working with and playing with Kodi, eating right, and a few other things.
All along I haven’t made those things the priority part of me says they should be. After reading his comments, which I found via BlogExplosion, I’ve had a sitdown talk with myself and have re-evaluated what I should be doing and what I WILL be doing each day!
Winsome Gunning joins us this week with her art blog. I like her art from the 1990s best, but her work over all isn’t bad. I hope you enjoy reading and looking at her work on the link the the left there. (No link here, as I want you to go click on the picture of her blog there to the left!!)
Well, with my move to a new host, I lost my old Photo Gallery, to an extent, and I moved to Flicker. I like hosting my own photos though, as it is easier to move about, etc, so I FINALLY got down to fixing the Gallery on this host! You can visit my photo gallery by going here.
Over the next few days I will bring over all of the pictures I have put up on Flicker so I have them on my host as well. I will probably continue to post them on both spots, but the Gallery, after the next week or so, will always have the most current (I hope!)
It seems every time I move, I get rid of a nice desk, and when I get to the new place I’m stuck with a crappy small desk. When I lived in MD I was using this desk, which I brought with me to Florida:
This past week I acquired a new desk:
MUCH better, and I’m feeling much better when I sit at the desk to work on either my home work, or for work or for Watkins! I fee more organized, have a LOT more room, and I can spread out some!!
Feels good, wasn’t expensive, and a friend who puts furniture like this together for a living (in the past) put it together for me! (Took him 4 hours, imagine how long it would have taken me!!)
Well, at AV Books, we finished our 7th book, , and have shipped it to the American Bar Assocaition for approval and shipping!
Interesting the way Lawyers write books… Some good information in it, that applies to all business, though! Even if you aren’t an attorney, I recommend the book for some of the points it brings up in setting up a business, setting up an image, and in getting clients.
This past week I’ve been having a technically challenged time. At work (AV Books, Inc.) we had two computers decided they didn’t like their opperating systems and they just crapped out. (Small company, and although I’m the primary tech guy since I have a PhD. in Comp Sci and since I have been CIO of companies, I’ve been assigned the “tech support role” for the company (ok, by me as much as by the CEO…).)
At home I was moving my powered up laptop from the office to the living room so I could watch a movie () and the laptop slipped out of my hand. I caught it, by the power cord but not before two USB pluggins hit the ground with force and broke. One being a 256M USB Drive with a LOT of data on it (luckily only backup data) and my Bluetooth dongle. Had to go out and buy new ones. The bluetooth dongle didn’t want to work for the first two hours of putzing with it and my cell phone . Got it all working finally.
Two days ago I ordered the Jabra BT620s headset which I can’t seem to attach to my computer to listen to music. It gives me the dings and pings from the laptop computers operating system but no sound from Rhapsody or anything else. It also works well with my above mentioned cell phone for the phone part, but won’t let me listen to the music on the PDA (via Pocket Tunes ). Going to have to work on this issue today when I have time.
And finally, came home yesterday to one of my “servers”, and the most important one, it’s the printer server, and a few other important task, must have talked to the two computers at work, and it cropped up with the same problems they were having. Going to have to work on that today or tomorrow too.
A friend also has computer problems, so I’m heading over to his house today to fix them and get his computer back to where he wants it.
Update: (an hour later…) I fixed the Jabra problem with the laptop. It now works correctly for the laptop. Now to get it to work right with the PDA.
