The St. Francis Prayer Book: A Guide to Deepen Your Spiritual Life
Author: Jon M. Sweeney
Rating: 4
Review: I liked the history it gave on St. Francis of Assisi, but would have liked more. The prayers and sequence was good and the concept is very sound to me. I would recommend it for anyone not doing the Liturgy of the Hours.
The Electronic Christian: 105 Readings from Fulton J. Sheen.
Author: Fulton J. Sheen
Rating: 5
Review: Bishop Sheen laid out the Catholic Faith in a concise order that was easy to read and worth the reading. In this book, he took his "better" readings from his TV and radio shows and put them "in order" here for one to learn about Christ and the Catholic Church. Bishop Sheen's life in Christ and his teachings of Christ in the book are very well done. I highly recommend this book.
History of Philosophy, Volume 1 (History of Philosophy)
Author: Frederick Copleston
Rating: 3
Review: The book was very one sided to the Author's thoughts and views. He only posted parts of philosophy that supported his views, and not the whole picture as presented by Plato and such. He also left too much text in Greek, which the "lay person" probably doesn't know. (I know I don't yet!) That said, I guess it was an OK review of the early philosophical teachers.
IF ANYONE out there actually pays attention to this blog, over the last few days you have seen some pretty quick changes to what I am currently reading. I figured I should tell you why that is happening.
The first book I had put up as being read was . After starting this, during some of my studies in Catholicism, I came upon and . These too books I ordered from the local library early this week. Surprisingly they came in the next day! So, I started reading “Holy Teaching”, and placed “I would Follow Jesus” back in the “to read” pile.
I had also ordered and one other on Saints. “Lives” came in yesterday, the other one hasn’t come in yet.
After reading the first couple of chapters of “Holy Teaching”, I felt that I needed to read “Summa Theologica” first, then come back to where I left off in “Holy Teaching”, which summarizes “Summa Theologica”, so I picked up the Saints book and am now reading it. I am awaiting Book 1, 2, 4, and 5 of the “Summa Theologica” book, as they only sent me Book 3 for some reason.
So, I will finish this Saint book, then follow up, it should be here by then, the second one, and then start on “Summa” as it should be fully here. (Unless you want to buy for my Birthday (which is Monday, shameless plug) “Summa”, which I would like to own. You can find it wish list at Amazon! (ANYTHING on the list is cool for the BDay.)
I still have the art listed here up for sale. To help make that happen, I have placed the art on Yessy, which is a company that will escrow the money for you until you get the paintings. Please check them out (and buy them!)!
*** September 5, 2007 update: I took the “Online Art Gallery” down due to lack of interest by the small hand full of people that looked at it. The paintings are still up for sale though! Drop me a line if you are interested in them!
I received a call from D today about T. It seems that after driving with D for several hours for work and getting back into the area T receives a call from Doug, the dominating male “friend” of hers, stating that he is feeling suicidal. She turns around and drives an hour or more to his house to make sure he is OK. Upon greeting him she asks how he is, and he says he is never better. He then starts yelling at her about how she is a lesbian and cheating on him with girls and other men, and that she is basically a whore. It leads to a physical fight in which she is now bruised from head to toe, has a broken rib and once again “lying” to people about what happened. She is afraid that people will think bad of him? Go figure, we already do! Anyway, even without my giving her the information, which I will probably never do, even now, he has struck, and quicker than I thought would happen by about a week.
I only hope she does not go back to him as many people do after a very short time. When he realizes that he isn’t “getting her” anymore he will call her humbly (yah right) apologize, say it will never happen again (yah right, for sure, like really!?), and ask her to come back. I hope and pray that she remains strong against him, and doesn’t take his lies and come back to him. Next time will be worse, and each time it gets worse!
Well, stepped on the scales again today. Down to 220!! And I’ve lost over 4 inches in the waste too! Only 10 more pounds to go to make me totally happy! Now to come up with the extra money to buy new cloths, as what I have now is WAY too big. Good feeling though!
