My ramblings as I move forward in my life Journey.

Say it isn’t so!!??

I started reading, at the request of a friend that loaned it to me, The Complete Idiot\'s Guide to the Bible, Third Edition today (OK, 2nd Edition, but you should always buy the newest right?). In the first chapter I started seeing dates such as 285 B.C.E and 95 C.E. I was like “what the?”… So, looking to the side I see a “Manna from Heaven” (a cute little box throughout the book that has insight into what you are reading) that deals with this. It seems that in 2003 we were in the process of changing B.C. (Before Christ) to B.C.E. (Before Common Era) and A.D. (Anno Domini, or Year of Our Lord (Not “After Death” as many say!!) to C.E. (Common Era). I’ve NEVER heard this before, have you? It doesn’t seem to have stuck, as I have read MANY books published after then, and they still use the “old” words to describe before or after the coming of Christ.

So, which is the politically correct way to go? (Not that I will change from B.C. and A.D.!!)

The B.C.E. and C.E. designations are endorsed as being non-religious. Apparently B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini) are offensive to people who don’t believe in Christ. This is a load of rubbish, and I, like you, will continue to ignore the wishes of the Politically Correct elites.

I’m kinda surprised I hadn’t heard of this before! But I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one that will stick with the Christ centric naming practice!

Another “Idiots” book to avoid is “The Complete Idiots Guide to Catholicism.” It is so full of misinformation that anyone reading it will not recognize their faith when they’re finished.

Thanks for the heads up Randy, that was on my reading list, and I’ll remove it from said reading list (hadn’t made it to the list to the left yet, but was going to soon!
