Nine months ago my Sister, Swamp/DSCN0076.jpg, adopted a 13 month old little girl from Guatemala by the (new) name of Sarah:

For my confirmation this past weekend, I had the pleasure of getting to meet her for the first time. She and I took to each other rather well and we had a blast going to the beach for her first time, coloring at a restaurant, and doing many other fun things together.

Here is a slide show of some of our events together!

She is such a sweet little girl and I had a blast. I hope she did too!

Fort Myers Beach, FL – Part 2

When my friend and I were on the beach this past weekend, we had the fun of getting less than a foot away from this pelican:

This bird was very interested in my friend and I, but as soon as ANYONE else got close, it would take off.

Of course I had left my “real” camera in the car, but took these two pics with the Palm 650. Not too bad, if I do say so myself.
Enjoy!

I finally got to get back to Fort Myers to see my friend who lives there. This time I was ahead of schedule and had my camera, but again, Alligator Alley did not want to cooperate with me. The water was WAY down, and I did not see many if any alligators I could take a picture of.

My friend and I did go to this beach and we walked along it’s shores and talked a lot!

Busy Times…

We have a lot going on at work (AV Books) these days. We are working on sending in three Federal Grant request for a series of Educational Studies using our Reader, we’re producing three books, Complete Idiot’s Guide to Learning French, 3E (The Complete Idiot’s Guide) (Fourth Edition though, which is not ready to purchase in the US yet!), Complete Idiot’s Guide to Learning Spanish, 4th Edition (Complete Idiot’s Guide to), and How to Capture and Keep Clients: Marketing Strategies for Lawyers, by the American Bar Association. Add to that a couple of “stealth mode” projects and that’s a full calendar in itself! In fact so full I’ve been at work every weekend for the past three weekends including today. I have had to work several 27+ hour days, and one over 36 hours!

I still have Kodi to work with and train with for Search and Rescue, my Ph. D. dissertation (which hasn’t gotten too far), walks on the beach (been a while for that), and playing on the boat (although I missed the last three cruises because I needed to work..).

All that said, I’m having a blast!

Places to be..

A friend of mine, Jamie made a comment to me about a comment I made on her blog that got me thinking today.

Her comment was, “You live on a beach, kind of; at least a hurricanes sneeze away. You crew on the Second Star. And you want to trade that for a kayak on a mountain lake. Is the salt air getting to you?”

That had me sit back and think about it. She’s right, I’m in a great place, have water around me all day, get to play on it often via the boat or just by going to the beach, neither of which I do enough of, but do get to do often, and I’m dreaming of being on a kayak in the mountains?

Yes, I’m dreaming of being in the mountains. My ideal location in the world is a mile or less to the ocean (along the lines of Stenson Beach or Pompano Beach) and a mile or less to the Rocky Mountain Range foot hills. I love both the ocean and the mountains, and want to have the best of both worlds. I could live the summers in the Rocky Mountains, North and West of Denver Colorado, and the winters in Pompano Beach Florida on the beach. I’d be one of those ever present (in the winter months here) Snow Birds that come down. (And I guess I’m getting to that age as my hair is turning grey and white each and every day…)

My Shaman always told me I was centered in two areas of the elements, Water and Earth, and that both called to me, and spoke through me. I guess that is why I like these two areas so much in the physical world. (He did say that Air (via the Wind) played big in my life, which is why I blew all over the world, but I think he was jesting there…)

I feel well grounded when I’m on or near the ocean, on or near a lake, hiking or sitting or just plain being, in the mountains. Having both water and mountains around me is a great feeling that I like having about me…

So Jamie, yes, I’m dreaming of being in the mountains on a kayak looking at and absorbing the area’s aura and feelings!

The Weekend, FINALLY…

Well, other than for the fact I will be sailing a good amount this weekend (and that starts in about an hour and a half from this posting tonight!!), I need to first clean house, then I need to get back to my studies. A friend of mine read the blog today and kicked me hard, figuratively, for not cracking the books, research, and other stuff I need to do for my dissertation. Guess I’ll take her advice and get to it!

But there will be some good sailing this weekend too!! And there is a BIG Sea Food Fest going on this weekend as well. Next weekend is a beach air show as well! Going to be a fun, though hot it seems, couple of weeks here coming up starting today!

Florida could be a problem…

Well now that I’m living in Florida my studies and work habits could get bad… The weather has been sooooooo good, it’s hard to stay in and work on my dissertation or to read or to study or to work on web pages, or to…..

Spent most of the weekend out sailing again, and let me tell you, if it’s not something you’ve done, you should! (If you are in the Ft. Lauderdale area, I can get you hooked up on the Second Star which does two charter cruises a day for $40.00 per person, up to six people per cruise for three to four hours of sailing on the ocean, and if you want, you get to steer the boat, play with the sails, etc!)

Now, on the good side, I’m getting back into shape, walking Kodi almost every day, doing ab rolls, pushups, and eating better. (Kinda embarrassing going to the beach, or playing on the boat being over 270 pounds and ghost white! ;) )

I am going to have to start scheduling via my planner all my study time I need!

Spring is HERE!!

Well, we are moving into the time of year I love the most, minus the rain anyway, and that is Spring. I like the temp most of the time, and I love the new growing things outside, the return of the birds and other animals, and the over all re-birth of the year. (Not much into rain though, hate being wet unless I’m scuba diving or swimming.)

Summer is my second favorite time of year, as that means the beach is there with at least semi warm water!! I love walking on the beach and swimming in the ocean, under the waves or on the waves!! (Although I don’t surf….)

Time to grab my school books and head to the beach I think!! (Although today is too busy for that…)

Don’t forgot your Watkins Products!!
