My ramblings as I move forward in my life Journey.

The Sabbath…

Many years ago, when I was a child, I wondered why the Bible showed us that the 7th day of the week was a Holy Day, but the Churches my family went to all had the “Holy Day” on Sunday, the 1st day of the week. I never understood it. I asked a minister when I was in my early twenties, why we went to Church on Sunday instead of Saturday as decreed by God in the Bible in giving us the 10 Commandments. The answers I was given didn’t ring right with me, and consisted of “We are celebrating the Resurrection of Christ”.

When Jesus was alive, He kept the Sabbath on Saturday. In fact, the second earliest document that states a change to Sunday was in 74AD for a few small groups, but the general exception of the Christian faith “moving” the Sabbath to Sunday was over 300 years after Jesus passed away. It was not founded on any comments in the Bible, or any such decree from God.

God clearly said that He was celebrating the completion of His work of Creation of the Universe and human kind. The Sabbath was given to all man to be the 7th day of the week, Saturday on the current calender, not Sunday. Why does the Catholic Church and most Protestant Churches celebrate on Sunday?

My research shows a few reasons for this:

  • To celebrate the Resurrection of Christ
  • To assist in converting Pagans
  • To be different the the Jewish Community. (Yes, some older readings show this to be one reason! Not sure how true that is though!
  • The more I pray on this and the more I read the Bible, the more I feel compelled to follow the Commandments of God and take Saturday as the Sabbath. I am still Catholic, will still go to Sunday Mass (and soon to Mass every day with a change in my work schedule), but from sundown on Friday, till sundown on Saturday I will be refraining from work, reading the Bible, and meditating on Christ, the Bible and life. During this time frame, I will not be on my computer, will not be using the phone to check emails, Facebook, Twitter, etc. This does open Sunday to work, such as mowing the lawn as needed, and any other work I have been refraining from doing on Sunday. I feel confident this is what God has told us to do.

    In Christ,

    D.

    Finally Jumping in…

Ok, I’m in the process of fully catching up with the world. Not sure how long it will last, but I’m going to jump into Facebook and Twitter…

My Twitter account is donmbell and my Facebook account is donaldbell@yahoo.com. Feel free to friend me and get connected.

I have both on my new phone, so when I’m not in the dungeon at work (which is where I spend about half my day) where the phone doesn’t work, I will get the tweets and Wall postings and will often reply to them.

I’m not sure how long I will stick to twitter, as I STILL don’t get it, but we shall see.

I will be with Facebook for the long term I guess, because my siblings appear to use it heavily as a means of chatting with each other (although they never told me….)…

Times are a changing, as I said I’d never do twitter, and I have been fighting Facebook, except for business…

    Is Blogging Dead?

Over on Tribal Blogs, Cardiogirl wrote this article outlining her thoughts on if Blogging was dead. Her over all review was that blogging was not dead, just reduced to those that write and those that just type have moved on.

I’m not so sure I fully agree with her. With the advent of Twitter and Facebook, I think the general population has moved away from blogging, and has moved to those venues. Even the major corporations skipped over blogging to go to these two venues. And the bloggers that are still out there seem to be writing less and less, and spending more and more time on Facebook and Twitter than their blogs.

Yes, there are still those bloggers out there that keep their blogs current with fresh content, publish often, and comment and read other blogs, but in general I think the fad of blogging has meet it’s hayday, and there will be some around for ever, but in general, I think the blogging world has pretty much moved on to other things.

Don’t get me wrong, I think that blogging is still a valid means, and I plan on sticking with it, but I do think it has had it’s day!

    I don’t get it.. Facebook…

Ok, first (or more recently anyway), we have the guy that was married to one lady, and was messing around with another lady, then he took a trip to Disney World and got married, while still married to the first lady, to this lady. And the lady has the gumption to post the wedding pictures on her Facebook page. Busted!

Now, I have a friend here in my area that has been dating a guy for several weeks, and it was getting serious. “Exclusive” supposedly. Then the guy goes out and finds another lady, concurrently, and posts about it on his facebook page. BUSTED!

I have heard many stories like this. WHY are people so dumb to post such things to get themselves in trouble?

I still don’t get Facebook in general though… Or Twitter, or MySpace (is that still around, don’t hear much about it anymore?), or ….
