My ramblings as I move forward in my life Journey.

EMERGENCY!

Back in the early 1970s there as a show on the air called EMERGENCY! in which two guys showed the world the new Paramedics in California. This show was a key motivator for me to get into emergency medicine and lead me to go initially the Coast Guard, who wasn’t hiring, but finally into the US Army as a Combat Medic (91B plus others). It progressed from there. :) Anyway a great TV series, and I found it, all 100 episodes, available on Netflix, and started watching them again. A GREAT series still!! Although I have been laughing at the cloths of the time. (Didn’t think they were funny looking back then though….)

Today while checking out what was available, I also found “The Rat Patrol”. LOVED this show when I was a kid, in black and white, but didn’t see a lot of them, as, if I remember right, when it was on, there were things that my parent’s wanted to watch instead. Started watching it today, in color now!!, and am enjoying them too!

So, without commercials, I am now catching up and re-watching Seaquest, Emergency!, and The Rat Patrol, as well as watching new and old movies… A happy camper, and it keeps me busy as I recoup from surgery and exercise on and off all day at home.

No More TV!

Ok, after only two months of having TV on here at the apartment, I turned it off on the 7th, only two days after thinking I would do it at the end of the month. For the almost $50.00/month to have cable TV, there was really nothing much on. I did, however, find myself watching the NCIS re-runs (which I hadn’t seen in the first place) every day, which was taking me away from my reading projects, and home grown homework studies in theology and philosophy.

And I don’t miss it at all!! This last six days have been very productive in the evenings, even those days when I had outside events/meetings to go to, when I got home, and I am getting back on track to having my studies and reading done on my “original” schedule.

I can say that TV has gone WAY down hill over the years as to what is shown and how it is put together. (Now, mind you, on the TV I have, the picture is OUTSTANDING, which kinda helps in the viewing!) The cinematography is often weak, especially comparing it to times long past, and that is with the better technology today! You would think it would be OUTSTANDING now. It isn’t.

When I bought my TV back in August, I also picked up a BlueRay player. WOW, that picture is GREAT!! Almost 3d in appearance when watching a BlueRay movie! Now to find CHEAPER BlueRay movies!! WOW, they are expensive!

I will probably continue to watch movies on the TV, via the BlueRay/DVD player, but I intend to cut WAY back on that as well, and have done good in that area this past 6 days as well!

TV Today…

Living in a small apartment by myself with no TV and just a small DVD (and I mean small) player and a Zune music device got kinda quiet and boring at times. So, after not owning a TV in several years, and mainly being interested in movies, I decided to buy a larger TV (32″ LED HD screen, VERY NICE!) and a BlueRay DVD player, with Internet access.

I also added Cable TV. Not sure why I did that though… TV still stinks, badly… And the commercials!! That get worse each year it seems! I may have to turn off the Cable soon, as I just don’t like watching TV (now I LOVE watching movies, without commercials) for the most part…

Now, the TV and BlueRay are great! With the HDMI cable, BlueRay disks put out great pictures! (I only have two BlueRay disk right now, but…) And regular DVDs look pretty good too! VERY sharp!

The Rite – A Review

Went to the movies this past Friday and watched “The Rite”, with Anthony Hopkins and Colin O’Donoghue.

This is a GREAT movie. It was well acted by all parties, had great cinematography, and a great story line. To make it even better it was based on real events and lives of real people.

Without giving away any spoilers, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys a good suspense movie that is well written and acted!

Christmas, Take Two…

Ok, so I am sitting in the living room, flipping through channels to see if there are any good movies on. (Bout the only thing I watch, although I prefer DVDs as I HATE commercials…) And what do I see? Three channels with CHRISTMAS movies!! And what do I do, I put one of them on, watched it, and then the next one starts up and it is Christmas as well! ALREADY!!

Have we TRULY forgotten the reason behind the season here in the US? Have we totally skipped Thanksgiving first? What happened to the Christmas “Season” starting with the end of the Macy’s Day Parade when Santa came across the screen.

I know that businesses are trying to raise revenues and think that getting the Christmas “spirit” (lower case S on purpose) going as soon as possible, but I would rather see them focus on the true meaning of Christmas, which is the Spirit of Christ our Lord being born.

I had, at one time, my reviews of books and movies showing the actual review. I just noticed that it was just showing my rating of the item, and not the review I wrote for it. I just fixed it. :) You can now be bored with what I have to think about the item I am reviewing. :) Enjoy!!

It is with sad heart that I announce the passing of David Carradine:

David Carradine

Mr. Carradine was, to me, a great actor and he became a great Martial Artist over the years as well. I enjoyed his TV series, movies and shows that he did. He was a key player in people going into martial arts in the 1970s as well.

Mr. Carradine, my hat off to you!! Rest in Peace!

After about three weeks of having no soda of any kind or at any time, I went to a movie last night (Mad Money, good movie…) and had a soda because I wasn’t going to pay $4.00 for a small bottle of water. Well, I drank 3 sips from the coke, which I use to drink daily at least a six pack, and didn’t like how sweet it was or the taste in general. So, I wasted the $4 bucks, but it showed me I shouldn’t have been drinking soda all along anyway…

Kinda surprised me that I lost the taste for soda after so short a time! It also showed me that the movie theaters need to have things other than sodas to sell, and other than EXPENSIVE water…
